What Makes ThermaDoor Garage Door Insulation Different?
High-Density EPS Core
Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year. As the primary insulator in the composite system, it works in tandem with the foil and air cavity to deliver the verified assembly R-value.
Sisalation Foil Backing
Laminated to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat back across the internal air cavity — the gap maintained by ThermaDoor's purpose-made foam packers. The foil only works because the gap is engineered. Together they form the reflective half of ThermaDoor's composite technology. The foil also acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification — it's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes.
UV-Stable Vinyl Facing
The composite system only performs if the materials stay intact. This durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the EPS core and lamination bond from Australia's harsh climate — resisting fading, cracking, and weathering year after year. The result is a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Built for Echuca & Moama's Climate
Extreme Inland Heat
Echuca and Moama summers regularly push garage door surface temperatures above 55°C. Sitting in the Murray basin, there is no coastal breeze to take the edge off. ThermaDoor's EPS core and reflective foil backing work together to block radiant heat and keep the comfort in — whether your garage faces north, west, or anywhere in between.
Freezing Winter Mornings
The Murray region delivers genuinely cold winters, with regular frosts and sub-zero overnight temperatures across Echuca and Moama. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning isn't a shock to the system — and your adjoining rooms stay warmer too.
Dust & Weather Protection
Inland NSW and northern Victoria bring dust, strong winds, and temperature extremes that coastal products aren't built for. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant — unlike open-cell foam or fibreglass batts that absorb moisture and fail over time.
Home Energy Rating Support
ThermaDoor gives builders, homeowners and energy assessors verified garage-door assembly R-values, backed by an independent engineering report, to review when the garage affects comfort, heat transfer or adjoining living areas — whether for a new build, renovation or existing home. Ask any supplier for their engineering report.

I originally planned to do a DIY installation using the insulation kit, but I'm really glad I decided to have it professionally installed. The installation looks fantastic and was well worth the price. The installer was quick, professional and took the time to make sure the garage door spring was properly balanced after the insulation was fitted. Very happy with the result and would definitely recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I cannot speak highly enough of ThermaDoor and the product they have created. It is quite simply second to none. We had ThermaDoor installed on our new 16 panel, fully west facing garage door, and the result has exceeded anything I could have hoped for. The temperature in the space has now dropped by at least 20 degrees, which has completely transformed how we can use it. Our garage is not just a garage , it’s “the Cave” for my son, who is an NDIS participant, and his support team. We had already invested in an epoxy floor and replastering the space, but despite that, the heat made it almost unusable. Since installing ThermaDoor, it has become a comfortable, functional, and genuinely enjoyable environment. It has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building for my son and his team. The product itself looks premium, fits beautifully, and has made the space noticeably quieter as well , something I didn’t expect but absolutely love. Another positive for me is that the core product Is aesthetically pleasing with a beautiful vinyl panelling covering that finishes the door to a higher standard, Another 5 ⭐️ stand out of a quality solution. And then there is the service. Peter and Karen were nothing short of exceptional — knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping us achieve the best outcome for our son to make his space a home away from home! This has been one of the most impactful upgrades we’ve made to our home, and I know it will carry us just as beautifully through winter as it has through summer. I am so grateful, thank you for helping us create a space that truly supports my son’s world and capacity building Deb4Sammy Mountain CreekPosted on Google![]()

Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact Thermadoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top. The door closer mechanism was modified to close with the extra panels and it is much quieter. I would recommend this company for the great job at a very reasonable price.Posted on Google![]()

Short review: Garage temps have dropped 4c to 6c since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. Long review: We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon plus we also have side glass doors on the garage for side access so it also gets lots of sun and heat. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4c to 6c in summer and in winter its not as cold and I also noticed the noise is less, so straight away money well spent. The garage just feels more comfortable on very hot days and you really notice the difference when you open the garage door and walk out into the front yard. The install guys were really nice and local for us (Sydney) and after panel installation they also serviced our garage door to make sure everything was OK and I appreciated their extra care and clean up afterwards. Installation didnt take long and the garage door looks great, you wouldnt know it was there unless I pointed it out to you. Well worth the investment in insulating our garage door and Ive recommended them quite a few times since. Edit. We installed the Premium panelsPosted on Google![]()

I had my west facing garage door insulated and sealing brushes added to stop dust, some of the best money I have ever spent on a house improvement. Great service, efficient and reasonably priced. I would recommend in a flash.

Frequently Asked Questions - Garage Door Insulation Echuca & Moama
Does garage door insulation actually make a difference in Echuca and Moama?
Yes — and the Echuca–Moama climate is one of the strongest arguments for it in regional Australia. Bureau of Meteorology records show Echuca’s average January maximum is 31°C, with summer highs regularly exceeding 40°C and an all-time record of 47.2°C. A bare metal garage door facing afternoon sun in those conditions can reach surface temperatures above 55°C, radiating heat directly into your garage and any adjoining rooms. ThermaDoor’s independently tested EPS panels block up to 90% of that radiant heat, making a measurable difference to garage comfort and the thermal performance of the rooms beside it.
Is garage door insulation worth it in winter in Echuca and Moama?
Absolutely. July is Echuca’s coldest month, with average overnight lows dropping to -0.4°C and the all-time record sitting at -2.9°C. Frosts are common from May through to September across both Echuca and Moama. An uninsulated metal garage door offers virtually no thermal resistance — rated at approximately R0.0 — meaning cold air pushes straight through into the garage and any adjoining living areas. ThermaDoor provides a verified assembly R-value of R1.43 (winter), slowing heat loss overnight and making the garage noticeably more comfortable through the colder months.
What is the R-value of ThermaDoor garage door insulation?
ThermaDoor provides independently calculated, dual-season assembly R-values of R1.43 (winter) and R1.39 (summer). These are full garage-door assembly values — calculated on the complete installed door including the steel sections, hinges, joins and hardware — not just the insulation panel alone. This matters because heat also travels through the steel frame of the door (known as thermal bridging), which is why material-only R-values overstate real-world performance. ThermaDoor’s values are backed by an independent engineering report available on request.
Can I install ThermaDoor myself in Echuca or Moama?
Yes. ThermaDoor DIY kits are shipped directly to your door anywhere in the Echuca and Moama region, including Rochester, Kyabram, Cohuna, Barham and surrounding towns. The panels are purpose-built to fit standard sectional and tilt garage doors and are designed for straightforward DIY installation. If you prefer professional installation, our authorised local distributor Garage Doors R Us is based in Moama and services both sides of the Murray.
Who installs ThermaDoor in Echuca and Moama?
ThermaDoor professional installation in the Echuca and Moama region is handled by Garage Doors R Us, located at 7 Dawson Street, Moama NSW 2731. They service Echuca, Moama, and the broader Murray River region including Rochester, Kyabram, Cohuna and surrounding areas. Contact them directly on (03) 5482 2200 to arrange a quote.
Does ThermaDoor fit all garage door types in Echuca and Moama?
ThermaDoor is purpose-built for the two most common garage door types in Australian homes — sectional doors (the panel-by-panel type that lifts vertically) and tilt doors (the single-panel type that swings out and up). If you are unsure which type you have, Garage Doors R Us can advise you at the time of enquiry. DIY kits are available in a range of sizes to suit single and double garage doors.
Will garage door insulation help with energy ratings for new builds in Echuca and Moama?
It can. Echuca and Moama sit in a climate zone with significant heating and cooling loads, and the garage is increasingly being considered in home energy assessments — particularly where it is an attached garage adjoining living areas, bedrooms or a home office. ThermaDoor provides verified garage-door assembly R-values backed by an independent engineering report, giving builders, architects and NatHERS energy assessors documented performance data to work with. ThermaDoor does not guarantee a specific rating outcome, but it provides the evidence base that assessors need when the garage is part of the thermal envelope.

BEFORE YOU BUY
Don't Buy Garage Door Insulation Until You Read This
Most garage door insulation is marketed using terminology borrowed from walls and ceilings — R-values from raw materials, fixing methods designed for static walls, and compliance claims with no documentation behind them. This free checklist gives you six clear questions to ask before you buy, so you can compare any product — including ours — on the factors that actually matter.
- Whether the supplier publishes an R-value at all — not providing one removes the consumer's right to compare products on equal terms
- Whether the R-value applies to a real installed garage door — not a raw material or wall insulation figure
- Whether the system accounts for both summer and winter performance, not just one direction
- Whether an air cavity is maintained so the insulation can actually do its job
- Whether the fixing method preserves door movement and does not compromise spring balance or safety
- Whether the supplier can provide compliance documentation if you are building, renovating, or need it for an energy assessment
