What Makes ThermaDoor Garage Door Insulation Different?
High-Density EPS Core
Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year. As the primary insulator in the composite system, it works in tandem with the foil and air cavity to deliver the verified assembly R-value.
Sisalation Foil Backing
Laminated to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat back across the internal air cavity — the gap maintained by ThermaDoor's purpose-made foam packers. The foil only works because the gap is engineered. Together they form the reflective half of ThermaDoor's composite technology. The foil also acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification — it's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes.
UV-Stable Vinyl Facing
The composite system only performs if the materials stay intact. This durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the EPS core and lamination bond from Australia's harsh climate — resisting fading, cracking, and weathering year after year. The result is a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Built for Perth & Western Australia's Climate
Intense Summer Heat
Perth summers are relentless. Weeks of 35°C+ days turn metal garage doors into giant radiators. ThermaDoor's reflective foil backing blocks radiant heat while the EPS core resists conducted heat — most insulation only does one. ThermaDoor does both.
Coastal Conditions & The 'Freo Doctor'
Your garage spends the whole day baking before the sea breeze arrives. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is highly durable and easy to wipe clean — unlike batts or foam that degrade over time.
Chilly Winter Mornings
Perth winters regularly drop into single digits. An uninsulated garage bleeds your home's warmth straight out the door. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight so your garage stays comfortable year-round.
Home Energy Rating Support
ThermaDoor gives builders, homeowners and energy assessors verified garage-door assembly R-values, backed by an independent engineering report — for new builds, renovations or existing homes.

Perth & Western Australia Garage Door Insulation: A Local Customer Story
Robert’s Perth garage door before and after ThermaDoor installation — a real local customer result.
Posted on Google Caroline nTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We purchased a DIY kit for our garage door to cool it down before installing a solar battery. We are really impressed with the results and have noticed a significant difference in the temperature since adding the insulation. Very glad we did it!
Owner's reply
Thank you so much, Caroline, this is exactly why we do what we do! 🙌 Preparing the garage for a solar battery is one of the smartest reasons to insulate first, and you've nailed the order of operations. Our customers regularly report temperature reductions of up to 20°C. A cooler garage isn't just more comfortable it's a better environment for battery storage. Most solar battery manufacturers specify an optimal operating temperature range, and an uninsulated steel garage door in an Australian summer can push well outside that range. You've protected your investment before it even arrived. Very glad we could be part of that.Posted on Google Shane WTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thermadoor's garage door insulation is the best. I have tried others and they dont even come close. Thermadoor is easy to install and the panel looks great. It looks very professional and not like an after thought. I cannot recommend this product enpugh. You will not be disappointed if you choose to go with Thermadoor insulation. Photos to come
Owner's reply
Thank you, Shane — "they don't even come close" is high praise and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share that. You've touched on something we hear a lot... ThermaDoor looks like it belongs on the door, not like something that was added as an afterthought. That comes down to the factory-laminated vinyl face and the mechanical fix system, which keeps everything flush and tight. It's designed to look like part of the door because it essentially becomes part of the door. We also love receiving photos from our customers and we're looking forward to seeing yours when they're ready! 📸Posted on Google Deborah RTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak highly enough of ThermaDoor and the product they have created. It is quite simply second to none. We had ThermaDoor installed on our new 16 panel, fully west facing garage door, and the result has exceeded anything I could have hoped for. The temperature in the space has now dropped by at least 20 degrees, which has completely transformed how we can use it. Our garage is not just a garage , it’s “the Cave” for my son, who is an NDIS participant, and his support team. We had already invested in an epoxy floor and replastering the space, but despite that, the heat made it almost unusable. Since installing ThermaDoor, it has become a comfortable, functional, and genuinely enjoyable environment. It has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building for my son and his team. The product itself looks premium, fits beautifully, and has made the space noticeably quieter as well , something I didn’t expect but absolutely love. Another positive for me is that the core product Is aesthetically pleasing with a beautiful vinyl panelling covering that finishes the door to a higher standard, Another 5 ⭐️ stand out of a quality solution. And then there is the service. Peter and Karen were nothing short of exceptional — knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping us achieve the best outcome for our son to make his space a home away from home! This has been one of the most impactful upgrades we’ve made to our home, and I know it will carry us just as beautifully through winter as it has through summer. I am so grateful, thank you for helping us create a space that truly supports my son’s world and capacity building Deb4Sammy Mountain Creek
Owner's reply
Deb, thank you, this means so much to us. We are genuinely honoured to have played a part in creating a space that works for your son and his support team. "The Cave" is exactly what a space like this should be... comfortable, functional, and truly his own. The fact that a 20°C temperature drop has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building is everything we could hope to hear. We are so glad they could be part of your family's story. Thank you for trusting us with it. Peter & Karen🙏Posted on Google 81micmicTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everything about ThermaDoor was fantastic. Easy online ordering, fast interstate delivery and DIY installation was straight forward and a breeze. I would recommend the business and the product.

We believe happy customers are the best outcome we can achieve. Thank you for sharing your experience, we really appreciate you taking the time to let others know. Peter & KarenPosted on Google Paul BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact Thermadoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top. The door closer mechanism was modified to close with the extra panels and it is much quieter. I would recommend this company for the great job at a very reasonable price.
Owner's reply
Thank you, Paul we are really glad Don could get the job done efficiently and that the whole experience from first contact through to installation met the mark. The door seals are an often underestimated part of the system. Once people experience the difference in dust, draughts, pests and noise they wonder how they managed without them. The spring and closer adjustment is something we always include as part of a professional install, so it's great to hear that came through in the result. Thanks again for the kind words and for the recommendation. Peter & Karen🙌Posted on Google Lorraine LTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Short review: Garage temps have dropped 4c to 6c since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. Long review: We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon plus we also have side glass doors on the garage for side access so it also gets lots of sun and heat. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4c to 6c in summer and in winter its not as cold and I also noticed the noise is less, so straight away money well spent. The garage just feels more comfortable on very hot days and you really notice the difference when you open the garage door and walk out into the front yard. The install guys were really nice and local for us (Sydney) and after panel installation they also serviced our garage door to make sure everything was OK and I appreciated their extra care and clean up afterwards. Installation didnt take long and the garage door looks great, you wouldnt know it was there unless I pointed it out to you. Well worth the investment in insulating our garage door and Ive recommended them quite a few times since. Edit. We installed the Premium panels

Karen and the crew were fantastic to deal with from start to finish. The product is amazing and has decreased the temperature in our garage by 10-15 degrees C and also decreased the temp in our house. It was super easy to self instal. Massive thumbs up!

Big thanks to Karen & the team, great people to deal with. Panels have been in over 2 years and work great. Huge reduction in heat within garage, great product.
Owner's reply
Thank you, Paul. Two years in and still working great is exactly what we build them for. Karen will love seeing this! 😊 Longevity is something we're proud of — the factory-laminated construction holds up to the daily movement and Australian conditions in a way that glued or retrofit solutions simply don't over time. I had my west facing garage door insulated and sealing brushes added to stop dust, some of the best money I have ever spent on a house improvement. Great service, efficient and reasonably priced. I would recommend in a flash.

Step 1: Where are you located?
Your climate affects how much thermal load your garage door creates and how much insulation can help.
Step 2: What size is your garage door?
Larger doors have more surface area, so insulation has a greater impact on thermal load.

Frequently Asked Questions - Garage Door Insulation Perth & WA
Do you offer professional garage door insulation installation in Perth?
Yes. Professional supply and installation across the greater Perth metropolitan area is available through our official stockist, Garage Door Insulation Perth. They service the full Perth metro region — from the northern suburbs down to Mandurah and across to the Perth Hills. Contact them directly on 0404 511 216 or visit garagedoorinsulationperth.com.au for a quote specific to your door size and location.
Why should I insulate my garage door in Western Australia's climate?
Insulating your garage door creates a critical thermal barrier that regulates temperatures inside the garage. This is especially beneficial during WA’s intense summer heat, stopping your metal door from acting like a giant radiator. It also retains warmth during cooler southern winters, improving overall comfort and reducing energy transfer into adjoining living areas.
Can I install ThermaDoor insulation myself if I live outside Perth?
Yes. DIY garage door insulation kits are available across all of Western Australia through our official Perth stockist, Garage Door Insulation Perth. Whether you are in regional WA or simply prefer to handle the installation yourself, the pre-cut panels are designed specifically for sectional and tilt doors and a confident DIYer can complete a double door in an afternoon using our step-by-step video guides. Contact Garage Door Insulation Perth to order your kit.
What makes ThermaDoor the best garage door insulation for WA homes?
ThermaDoor is Australia’s original, purpose-made garage door insulation — it is not repurposed wall or ceiling insulation. It features a high-density construction-grade EPS core, a laminated sisalation foil backing to block radiant heat, and a durable vinyl face. It delivers an independently calculated thermal value of R1.43 (winter) and R1.39 (summer) specifically within the garage door environment.
Will insulating my garage door reduce street noise?
Yes. In addition to thermal benefits, ThermaDoor insulation significantly reduces acoustic transfer. The 35mm high-density panels dampen the vibration of the metal door and provide a thick barrier against external noise, making it an ideal upgrade if you live on a busy Perth road or use your garage as a home office, gym, or playroom.
Is ThermaDoor insulation compliant with Australian building standards?
Yes. ThermaDoor is proudly Australian owned and manufactured. Our insulation panels are calculated to AS/NZS 4859.1 & 2:2018 standards and align with AS 3999 for insulation installation. Whether you are building a new home in Perth or retrofitting an existing garage, ThermaDoor supports 7-star NatHERS designs and meets the latest NCC 2022 energy compliance requirements.

BEFORE YOU BUY
Don't Buy Garage Door Insulation Until You Read This
Most garage door insulation is marketed using terminology borrowed from walls and ceilings — R-values from raw materials, fixing methods designed for static walls, and compliance claims with no documentation behind them. This free checklist gives you six clear questions to ask before you buy, so you can compare any product — including ours — on the factors that actually matter.
- Whether the supplier publishes an R-value at all — not providing one removes the consumer's right to compare products on equal terms
- Whether the R-value applies to a real installed garage door — not a raw material or wall insulation figure
- Whether the system accounts for both summer and winter performance, not just one direction
- Whether an air cavity is maintained so the insulation can actually do its job
- Whether the fixing method preserves door movement and does not compromise spring balance or safety
- Whether the supplier can provide compliance documentation if you are building, renovating, or need it for an energy assessment
