Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year. As the primary insulator in the composite system, it works in tandem with the foil and air cavity to deliver the verified assembly R-value.
Laminated to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat back across the internal air cavity — the gap maintained by ThermaDoor's purpose-made foam packers. The foil only works because the gap is engineered. Together they form the reflective half of ThermaDoor's composite technology. The foil also acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification — it's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes.
The composite system only performs if the materials stay intact. This durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the EPS core and lamination bond from Australia's harsh climate — resisting fading, cracking, and weathering year after year. The result is a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

From the humid beachside suburbs of Wollongong and Shellharbour to the warmer inland areas around Dapto and Albion Park, Illawarra summers are intense. ThermaDoor dramatically reduces radiant heat transfer, keeping your garage significantly cooler through the hottest months.
The Illawarra coastline means garages are exposed to moisture-laden, salt-heavy air year-round. An uninsulated metal door absorbs heat and allows condensation to build up inside. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant, unlike open-cell foam or polyester batts that absorb moisture and deteriorate over time.
Cold air rolls down from the Illawarra Escarpment overnight in winter, making garages in suburbs like Figtree, Keiraville and Helensburgh significantly colder than the coast. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning is no longer a shock — and your stored gear, tools, and vehicles stay protected from the cold year-round.
ThermaDoor gives builders, homeowners and energy assessors verified garage-door assembly R-values, backed by an independent engineering report, to review when the garage affects comfort, heat transfer or adjoining living areas — whether for a new build, renovation or existing home. Ask any supplier for their engineering report.

I originally planned to do a DIY installation using the insulation kit, but I'm really glad I decided to have it professionally installed. The installation looks fantastic and was well worth the price. The installer was quick, professional and took the time to make sure the garage door spring was properly balanced after the insulation was fitted. Very happy with the result and would definitely recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I cannot speak highly enough of ThermaDoor and the product they have created. It is quite simply second to none. We had ThermaDoor installed on our new 16 panel, fully west facing garage door, and the result has exceeded anything I could have hoped for. The temperature in the space has now dropped by at least 20 degrees, which has completely transformed how we can use it. Our garage is not just a garage , it’s “the Cave” for my son, who is an NDIS participant, and his support team. We had already invested in an epoxy floor and replastering the space, but despite that, the heat made it almost unusable. Since installing ThermaDoor, it has become a comfortable, functional, and genuinely enjoyable environment. It has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building for my son and his team. The product itself looks premium, fits beautifully, and has made the space noticeably quieter as well , something I didn’t expect but absolutely love. Another positive for me is that the core product Is aesthetically pleasing with a beautiful vinyl panelling covering that finishes the door to a higher standard, Another 5 ⭐️ stand out of a quality solution. And then there is the service. Peter and Karen were nothing short of exceptional — knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping us achieve the best outcome for our son to make his space a home away from home! This has been one of the most impactful upgrades we’ve made to our home, and I know it will carry us just as beautifully through winter as it has through summer. I am so grateful, thank you for helping us create a space that truly supports my son’s world and capacity building Deb4Sammy Mountain CreekPosted on Google![]()

Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact Thermadoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top. The door closer mechanism was modified to close with the extra panels and it is much quieter. I would recommend this company for the great job at a very reasonable price.Posted on Google![]()

Short review: Garage temps have dropped 4c to 6c since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. Long review: We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon plus we also have side glass doors on the garage for side access so it also gets lots of sun and heat. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4c to 6c in summer and in winter its not as cold and I also noticed the noise is less, so straight away money well spent. The garage just feels more comfortable on very hot days and you really notice the difference when you open the garage door and walk out into the front yard. The install guys were really nice and local for us (Sydney) and after panel installation they also serviced our garage door to make sure everything was OK and I appreciated their extra care and clean up afterwards. Installation didnt take long and the garage door looks great, you wouldnt know it was there unless I pointed it out to you. Well worth the investment in insulating our garage door and Ive recommended them quite a few times since. Edit. We installed the Premium panelsPosted on Google![]()

Karen and the crew were fantastic to deal with from start to finish. The product is amazing and has decreased the temperature in our garage by 10-15 degrees C and also decreased the temp in our house. It was super easy to self instal. I had my west facing garage door insulated and sealing brushes added to stop dust, some of the best money I have ever spent on a house improvement. Great service, efficient and reasonably priced. I would recommend in a flash.
We’re super impressed with our newly-installed Thermadoor insulation, it works a treat on our north-facing garage door and looks very sharp. Top marks for customer service and Caleb’s very neat and tidy job on the install. Highly recommend this outfit
This is a great product and service. Installed them myself and they work amazingly well. Great price compared to other companies who quoted me and Peter was super helpful in getting the sizing just right. Thoroughly recommend this product and company.

Your inputs
Yes, and it works particularly well here. The Illawarra combines coastal humidity with strong summer sun and cold escarpment air in winter, which means uninsulated garage doors heat up fast in summer and lose warmth quickly overnight. ThermaDoor’s EPS core dramatically reduces heat transfer through the door panels, keeping your garage cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It is independently tested to Australian Standards with an R-value of R1.43 (winter) and R1.39 (summer).
You can absolutely do it yourself. ThermaDoor DIY kits are designed for homeowners with no trade experience. Most people complete a standard double garage door in two to three hours using only basic tools — a tape measure, straight edge and a sharp utility knife. Full installation instructions are included, and video guides are available on our website.
ThermaDoor panels are designed to fit the vast majority of sectional garage doors sold in Australia, including B&D, Steel-Line, Gliderol, Centurion and most other common brands. The panels are trimmed to fit the exact dimensions of your door’s indentations, so they work across a wide range of door sizes and styles.
No. ThermaDoor’s laminated vinyl facing is moisture resistant and will not absorb humidity or salt air. Unlike open-cell foam or polyester batts, our panels will not swell, rot or deteriorate in coastal conditions. They wipe clean easily and are built to last in the Australian environment.
ThermaDoor offers professional garage door insulation installation through our authorised distributor network.
